George Turner

George Turner is the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Vauxhall.

A local resident

George grew up in London. He has lived in Vauxhall for seven years and is an active member of the local community. George lives with his wife, a teacher at a local school, and their baby daughter.

Ready to fight for you

George has proved himself to be a dedicated local campaigner, who won’t back down from challenging power and defending the interests of the people who live and work in this constituency.

In 2011, George led the campaign to stop the redevelopment of the former Fire Brigade headquarters on the Albert Embankment into luxury housing. The application had threatened to destroy the daylight of a neighbouring housing estate. You can read more about that campaign here.

In 2014, he started court action against plans to redevelop the Shell Centre in Waterloo which will trash the beautiful public space of the South Bank. During the case, George represented himself in court against the well-paid legal teams representing Shell, Lambeth Council, the Mayor of London, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government and Canary Wharf Group. He won praise for his case from a Senior High Court Judge and national media attention, and helped inspire the successful legal challenge against the controversial Garden Bridge. You can read more about the ‘Battle for Waterloo’ here.

Focused on the issues that matter

George is a strong pro-European and, unlike our local MP, he campaigned hard for Britain to stay in the European Union. He will be a strong, liberal voice for Vauxhall, fighting the battles that need to be won. He has long campaigned for better, more affordable housing rather than the high rise, luxury, unaffordable housing that is being approved by Lambeth Labour in Vauxhall. As an investigative journalist he has uncovered a number of scandals, including the vast sums of money paid by Lambeth Council to senior employees. He will fight for a democratic Lambeth which listens to the needs of the community and puts them first
