St Leonards By Election Update
2 July - Campaign Update
The campaign is in its final week before election day next Thursday, 9th July. Our candidate, Alex Davies, and his team have been out speaking to residents every day, knocking on thousands of doors across the community.
It seems clear, a week out from election day, that the contest is between the Lambeth Green candidate and Alex Davies. Born and raised in Streatham, before representing Streatham as a councillor, during which time he helped lead successful campaigns like saving the Thameslink connection to Streatham.
Throughout the campaign, we've heard from over a thousand residents, including former Green and Labour voters, who are concerned about rising crime, a declining High Street, and unreliable train services that many people depend on.
Many also worry that the Lambeth Greens are moving away from the local, community-focused approach they promised. When asked to reintroduce the committee system, which they had promised in their manifesto, they refused.
When we proposed saving money by reducing the allowances we give to councillors, the Greens voted to increase their allowances. A party that once championed local decision-making now seems more focused on jobs and allowances at the Town Hall.
Next Thursday, vote for Alex Davies—a proven local campaigner who will provide strong representation for Streatham and hold the new Lambeth Green administration to account.
