Simon Cordon

Your Lib Dem candidate for Clapham Common & Abberville

Simon Cordon has lived in Clapham for 16 years and in Lambeth since 1998. He
previously served for ten years as a councillor elsewhere, including as lead for social
care, where he pioneered service‑user engagement long before it became standard
— ensuring children in care were involved in shaping their own services. He
currently sits on a Policing Oversight Board and formerly chaired Lambeth’s
Leaseholders’ Forum.

Simon’s career began in manufacturing before he moved into the charitable sector
with the Terrence Higgins Trust. In 2012 he became operational head of
London‑wide NHS sexual assault services, overseeing the creation of London’s first
comprehensive NHS child sexual abuse support service, developing health‑centred
criminal justice advocacy, and expanding therapeutic recovery services for survivors.
He provided expert evidence to the national Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual
Abuse during its investigation into historic abuse in Lambeth’s children’s homes. He
now works part‑time for King’s College Hospital, leading a restructure of London’s
statutory sexual assault service.

Simon believes in practical action. He contacted the police to propose a clearer,
more efficient way for them to prioritise reviewing residents’ CCTV footage within
existing resources — a change they agreed to adopt. He is also developing a plan to
increase weekend litter collection on Clapham Common within current budgets.

Simon cares deeply about injustice — whether in the face of international atrocities
such as those in Gaza and Sudan, or the pressures facing young people through
excessive rents, barriers to home ownership, and Brexit‑imposed limits on travel and
work in the EU. Closer to home, he actively challenges Lambeth’s failures on basic
housing repairs and the inflation‑busting rise in permit charges for residents simply
for parking in their own street. These experiences drive his commitment to a
resident‑first, resident‑led Council that listens and acts.

Outside community work, Simon enjoys walking with his partner and is completing
the London Capital Ring. A musician by training, he also composes for his own
enjoyment.
