ED DAVEY WELCOMES FORMER LABOUR MAYOR AS LIB DEMS TURN THEIR SIGHTS ON THE RED WALL
Tina Valcarcel, who has served as a Councillor in Lambeth since 2006 and was Mayor of Lambeth in 2011/12, brings nearly two decades of local government experience. She currently represents Stockwell East ward.
Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey met with Tina Valcarcel in Vauxhall to personally welcome her to the party and to celebrate her decision to join the growing Liberal Democrat movement across South London.
Tina’s record includes her work as Deputy Cabinet Member for Disabilities, where she successfully introduced “SignLive” — a service allowing hearing-impaired residents to access online British Sign Language interpreters at the click of a button.
Councillor Tina Valcarcel said:
“Leaving a party I served for so many years was incredibly difficult, but when the values shift so dramatically, there’s no real choice. The Liberal Democrats and Sir Ed Davey have welcomed me with open arms, and I’m ready to deliver the hard work my constituents deserve.”
Councillor Donna Harris, Leader of the Lambeth Liberal Democrats, added:
“Tina is, first and foremost, a true community champion, and we’re proud to welcome her. Across the country, constituents and politicians alike feel let down by Labour’s failure to act. Real politics begins in the community, and when that’s neglected, everything else crumbles.
Lambeth Liberal Democrats will continue to do the work residents deserve, with Tina now at the heart of that effort.”
