Former Labour Mayor of Lambeth joins Liberal Democrats
Councillor Tina Valcarcel has served in Lambeth for almost 20 years, having first been elected in 2006. She was Mayor of Lambeth in 2011/12.
As Deputy Cabinet Member for Disabilities in 2019, she was responsible for the successful introduction of “SignLive”, a service to enable hearing impaired service users to access online British Sign Language interpreters at the click of a button.
She currently sits as a councillor for Stockwell East.
Commenting, Lambeth Lib Dem Leader, Councillor Donna Harris said:
“We are delighted to welcome Tina to our group. So often we find that we have shared values and instincts, and I have seen first hand how hard she works for residents.
“Lambeth Labour are letting people in the Borough down. Tina joining our group is a huge boost to our campaign to challenge them at the next Borough elections, and we look forward to working together.”
Councillor Tina Valcarcel added:
“Sadly, Lambeth Labour is no longer the party I joined.
“I have been impressed by the integrity of the Liberal Democrat councillors in Lambeth, and their diligent work speaking up for their communities.
“I share those values and will always put the views and interests of residents above party politics. I have been welcomed warmly by new Liberal Democrat colleagues and I look forward to serving with them.”
