Stockwell Lib Dems are working to bring St. Andrew’s church, Landor road, back into use

Stockwell Liberal Democrat campaigners Councillor Tam Langley and David Whitaker met the Archdeacon of Lambeth this week to discuss bringing the derelict St Andrew’s Church back into use.

Standing on the corner of Landor Road and Lingham Street, the church buildings have sat empty and neglected for years. Following a missed opportunity by Lambeth Council roughly a decade ago to facilitate redevelopment, the site has been empty, and recently squatted.

After meeting the Archdeacon, Tam and David have some good news to share. The Diocese of Southwark is now in the process of selling the site. Formal bids for the site have been received, and discussions are ongoing with potential buyers.

Tam and David also used the opportunity to press the Diocese directly on the urgent need for clear, proactive communication with neighbours who are rightly concerned about the building’s condition and future.

Speaking after the meeting, Councillor Tam Langley said:

“St Andrew’s Church is an important landmark locally, and we want to see the building given a new lease of life for the benefit of local residents. The local Liberal Democrat team has listened to residents’ concerns about the building standing empty, and we have been pressing the Diocese to communicate clearly with the community about the sale and what happens next. We will continue to make sure local residents’ voices are heard as decisions about the site’s future are made.”

Cllr Langley and David Whitaker will continue monitoring bidder discussions closely and push Lambeth Council and the Diocese for timely public updates.
