Cllr Matthew Bryant
Councillor for Streatham Hill West and Thornton
Working for you in Streatham Hill West and Thornton
Matthew Bryant has lived in Streatham Hill for almost 30 years. In 2022 he was elected as one of the two councillors for Streatham Hill West & Thornton alongside Donna Harris.
Since then, as well as taking up numerous issues on behalf of local residents, he has been the Lib Dem spokesperson for Children & Families and Finance on Lambeth Council. Locally he has campaigned to improve safety on a number of roads in the ward; he has co-ordinated the local Safer Neighbourhood Panel, working with the police to tackle the scourge of anti-social behaviour on Streatham Hill; supported the campaign to bring Streatham Hill Theatre back into use as a community facility; and put pressure on the Council to improve the local environment through cleaner streets, more trees and more bike hangars.
Professionally he worked in NHS financial management for over 30 years. He has used that experience to improve scrutiny of the Council’s finances and decision making. Matthew is passionate about education and was a governor at Kings Avenue Primary School for 20 years. He chaired the Governing Board between 2020 and 2025. He is also the secretary of his local resident's association.
In the next four years he wants to see:
- A more responsive council that listens to residents;
- More council houses built and a better repairs service for council tenants and leaseholders;
- A council that cuts out waste and gets the basics right.
