Doug Buist

Your Lib Dem candidate for Waterloo & Southbank

We don’t pause often enough to ask ourselves whether the things that impact our daily lives are working for us. Health services. Housing. Schools. Transport. The Council. Are they worklng for you?

Doug decided to run for Council because as a resident of Lambeth and, in particular, as a parent he too frequently sees how “the system” works against residents just trying to get on with the everyday and live a good life.

Doug’s three priorities as a councillor in Waterloo & South Bank will be:

  •    to make it easier for constituents to access the Council/public services they need;
  •    to radically improve the maintenance of housing estates in the ward and improve conditions for all categories of renters;
  •    to seek enhancements to the issues that most affect the community’s day-to-day life such as accessible pavements, road safety, cleanliness, open spaces, policing and personal safety.

Doug also takes a special interest in getting the support system for our young people with special education needs (SEN) and their families working better. He will commit to making contact with all families in the ward with an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) or diagnosis and hold SEN surgeries so he can work together with families to remove obstacles and improve the way things work.

Originally from Essex, Doug moved to Lambeth over 20 years ago. He has two sons with autism at schools in the borough and works for a cultural charity. In 2022, he was 67 votes short of being elected as a councillor for Waterloo & South Bank.
